There is so many on vid, nothing good.... Cup on belt with backpack on You... Not really. If you really have to atache it to molle or shockcord.

I usually have a big grin on my face watching guys in $150 pants chopping away with $200 axes and $300 (or more) knives. More than likely from sponsors.... I buy Mora blades and handle them myself. Huge satisfaction for me for under $25 in most cases.

Ok.. I’m a steel snob but honestly you are 100% correct when you say the best knife is the one you have with you! My Benchmade Rift in M4 is my most used knife because it’s always in my pocket. Thanks for some common sense!

Well done sir! I couldn't agree more with you on the subject of batoning in particular. Having a knife that you can baton wood with in an actual emergency is great (have fun spending your whole day trying to process enough wood to get you through the ice cold night), but if you know that you're going to be processing wood, carry an axe, hatchet, or hawk. Heck carry a good bow saw too! As for knives, you hit the nail right on the head. Too many people out there focusing on ridiculous things like, "it has to be full tang, it has to be carbon steel, if it's carbon steel, it must be this kind of high carbon steel, it has to have a 90 degree spine, it has to have this scandi grind, it has to be one of these manufacturers!" It's all BS. I'm not saying there are not some horrible cheaply made knives you should avoid "gas station specials", but seriously, there is no "forged by the gods knife!' Use what you have, can afford, and know how to use it. Don't get me wrong, if you can afford a super overpriced knife that holds up well, fine, go for it! Just do not be discouraged if you can't. Keep in mind people like Mors Kochanski pretty much did everything with an Opinel folding knife and a bucksaw. Our ancestors pulled it off with stone tools, so no matter what piece of steel you decide to carry, know that you're ahead of the game!

Enjoyed the tour. We were over the same weekend and enjoyed that spectacular weather. Sure was hard to leave but the drive back on North Cascades Highway was especially enjoyable in all of it's autumn splendor. I sure hope I can get back at least once more this year.

Personally i like the gi cup. I carry it, the little stove and the canteen all in the canteen carrier. But i also carry a small cook kit , the pot i use is a stainless steel grease can with lid i picked up at the doller store. I like it because it has a strainer and a little bit of a pour spout. It is very multi functional.

Great video, I'm all about my wood turned mug, kinda like a kuksa but bigger and no handle to get in the way. I know metal is handy but I just like wood. Guess the best cup is the one that makes you the happiest 😉👍 Subscribed.

I have 4 knives for the outdoors ... A case sodbuster jr. , opinel #8 , condor bushlore , condor village parang ... All high carbon steel , easy to sharpen , hold an edge pretty well ( if not abused ) and total less than $250 combined.. And i can't think of anything i couldnt do with this combination of blades

I've subscribed on the basis of this one vid. It's good to see some common sense. My kit is based on me and my preferences. Some of it is old and cheap, but it does the job fine. Other bits are top end. What suits one person doesn't suit everyone.

So refreshing. Power to you. I think bushcraft is a hobby for most people who have the internet. Like golf, fishing, photography etc. People enjoy spending some of their hard earned money on high end gear for their hobby. Most pro photographers I know would love the affluent hobbyists' gear... It's just the way it is. Thoreau had the same view as you. It makes no sense to work for a week to afford a knife that has no advantage over the one you already own. I learnt to live in the woods with a charcoal maker, decades ago. It isn't complicated. All that being said, a knife is a primal tool, and the latest iterations of it are interesting to me - I particularly like folders! I have just blown a load of cash on an Enzo Trapper in Elmax. It's a traditional knife made from a fairly modern powdered steel. I teach bushcraft to kids, and fancied treating myself to a step up from a Mora.. My feeling is that I have been a fool, and I might live to regret it. But I will enjoy learning to sharpen the new knife, and love the fact that I don't have to clean it immediately or sharpen it every other day. I have all but given up on conservation, but that is where I want my educating to lead. The woods that covered Europe were all managed before we discovered oil, and one day they may be again. My feeling is that the old ways need to be kept alive, and the frugality that you espouse is one of the most important of all the many elements involved. As the Indian said, 'The white man keeps warm by running around collecting firewood for his huge fire, but the red man sits by a small fire and keeps warm that way', or something..

Expensive custom blades are great if you have the disposable income, but certainly not necessary. My most expensive knife cost me a bit over $200. But, as much as I like it, I use my $15 Mora Companion about 90 percent of the time.

Finally got some land in Aeneas valley area! No well, septic and we are getting solar and living in our Class A until we can get a home on it for cheap. Are you near that area? I’m wondering how it is with WiFi (for work), rattle snakes, and do you ever see the big predator wildlife? We have 2 kids, ages 3 and 1. And I’m a little nervous, my husband isn’t but I am.
